The Role of Lexical Cohesion in Improving Twelfth Graders’ Essay Writing Quality

Abstract The current study was conducted to examine the role of lexical cohesion in improving quality twelfth graders’ essay writing. specifically aimed at examining correlation between cohesive devices (LCD) and written texts as well investigating barriers employing these for graders. context a private American curriculum school UAE. present paper adopted quantitative correlational survey research approaches. Data were collected using document analysis 30 essays an online attempted by 113 English teachers. analysed statistics, multiple linear regression, exploratory factor analysis. results indicated that there significantly positive, moderate association ties students’ scores. also demonstrated relation hyponyms synonyms writing scores although had more effect on score than synonyms. findings identified three factors major encountered learners while their including (1) lack resources instructions, (2) impact L1 interference (3) limited awareness.
